MIRAMICHI • The city is planning to build the first phase of an active transportation route on the Miramichi River’s south side this year as part of a $550,000 project.

During the July 2 council-in-committee meeting, city manager Mike Noel asked council to confirm its intentions to build the eastern end of the southern spine route.

Noel said the funds were earmarked in this year’s general capital budget for the work but council hadn’t discussed which segment of the southern spine it wanted built in 2024. He said staff intend to construct the eastern section along Water Street this year, between the CN railway crossing and Kelly Road.
