Arbec gives city $4M gift for the multiplex
Donation grants naming rights for entire facility, including arena, and soccer field

MIRAMICHI • The city has already reached 80 per cent of its fundraising goal for the new multiplex thanks to a multi-million-dollar gift from a major local employer.
Arbec Forest Products is contributing $4 million to the project, which will grant the company naming rights for the entire multiplex in the former village of Douglastown, its arena, and the artificial turf soccer field off-site on King Street, in the former town of Chatham, for 25 years.
Mayor Adam Lordon and Adam Stone, Arbec’s Miramichi general manager, announced the donation on Thursday in the Miramichi City Hall council chambers in front of city staff, Arbec employees, reporters, and business officials.
The exact names for the building, arena, and soccer field have yet to be determined. City council is expected to ratify the sponsorship deal at the Jan. 28 meeting.
“This partnership with the city is not just about making an investment but it’s also about our commitment to the community,” Stone said while announcing the donation.
“Through this project, we’ll be helping the city offer a modern multi-sport complex that will benefit everyone. Whether you’re an experienced athlete or just starting out, this space will be accessible to all, which is exactly what we want at Arbec.”
