Cardinals split, Tigers drop 2 of 3 games
Miramichi Valley Baseball League's 2025 regular season entering the home stretch

MIRAMICHI - The Miramichi Valley Baseball League has seen plenty of parity over the past few seasons, and the last week for the Newcastle A&B Lumber Cardinals and Chatham Head Tigers was no exception.
The Cardinals (8-5-1) got timely hitting en route to an 8-1 win over the Tigers (6-7-2) 8-1 in extra innings on July 15 at Waldo Henderson Memorial Field. They followed it up with a 7-2 loss to the Dalhousie Dodgers on July 16 at Memorial Field.
Meanwhile, the Tigers earned a hard-fought 4-3 win over the defending champs, the Tracadie Aigles, on Sunday in Chatham Head after suffering a 14-4 setback at Tracadie’s hands on July 17 on the road.
The Cardinals and Tigers endured a pitching duel between James Hicks and Matt Carroll in the July 15 contest. Hicks went the distance, scattering a run on six hits while fanning one and walking three for the win. Carroll was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits while sitting down five Cardinals and issuing three free passes in seven and one-third innings.
