Council passes rezoning for new drive-thru
No objections received by City Clerk's Department before June 10 public hearing

MIRAMICHI - City council has passed a rezoning for part of a mall parking lot in the former town of Newcastle to make way for a proposed drive-thru restaurant.
At the June 17 meeting, council unanimously passed the second and third readings of the rezoning requested by East Port Properties Limited on behalf of True North Commercial REIT for a 6,384-square-metre portion of the Miramichi Business Complex parking lot at 410 King George Hwy.
The rezoning, from general commercial (GC) to highway commercial (HC), permits the construction of an unnamed drive-thru at the east end of the property.
Several conditions were imposed on the rezoning based on the site’s proximity to a provincially significant wetland and a flood overlay zone under the city’s zoning bylaw.
