Former MLA seeking federal Grit nod again
Harris sets her sights on a rematch with Stewart from the 2021 federal election

MIRAMICHI • A former MLA and provincial cabinet minister now hopes to carry the Liberal Party banner in a federal election for the second time.
On Saturday, Lisa Harris announced her plans to seek the federal Grit nomination in Miramichi-Grand Lake once again in a Facebook post.
Securing the nomination would set up a rematch of the 2021 federal vote between Harris and first-term Conservative MP Jake Stewart, another former MLA and cabinet minister. Stewart defeated Harris by more than 1,400 votes in that election.
“Although I had initially planned to step back from politics, it is out of concern for the future for my two beautiful grandsons, and for you and your families, that I felt compelled to re-enter the political arena,” Harris said in her post.
“I am deeply aware of the challenges facing our nation and our region.”
