Lobster and the river
Delicacy has long been summer staple in Miramichi and Northumberland County

From summer gatherings to seafood and sandy beaches, the aroma of the season in Miramichi arrives in various forms, one of which is via the lobster pot.
Lobster and the River
Red shells crack in backyard light, As laughter spills into the night. From Napan fields to Chatham shore, It’s lobster time, and hearts want more. Twelve a pound, the season’s gift, From morning tide to evening lift. Boats leave early, lines in hand, Setting traps where shoals expand. They’ll haul them later, salt spray high, Beneath the gulls that rule the sky. From Pointe-Sapin to Tabusintac, They chase the red gold, then bring it back. At home, the water’s steaming clear, And tails curl tight as doneness nears. The shells turn red, the meat turns white, A butter dip seals pure delight. No forks or plates, just hands and grin, Newsprint spread and juice on chin. Coleslaw waits, the rolls are torn, A feast where coastal joy is born. Children run where breezes blow, While elders sip and stories flow. The bay reflects a golden hue, As dusk rolls in on skies of blue. This is summer, tried and true, In Miramichi where lobsters stew. Where sea and river join in cheer, And every claw says home is here.
