MIRAMICHI • A senator and award-winning author from Miramichi will receive an honorary degree from McGill University early next month.

David Adams Richards will be presented with an honorary doctorate of letters at the Montreal university’s spring convocation on June 2. He’ll also deliver the convocation address that day.

Richards, who grew up in Newcastle and was appointed to the Senate in 2017, has established himself as one of Canada’s leading literary figures. He has published 20 novels, seven non-fiction works, three plays, and two story collections throughout his career.

“I am honoured and humbled by this recognition from McGill,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
