Minister says northern route plan in the works
Chiasson says feedback is being sought on alignment before DTI requests funding

MIRAMICHI - Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson says he’s open to feedback on whether a bypass or other scenario for an additional route on the Miramichi River’s north side would work for the city and region.
During an information session about the proposed new northern route on Thursday at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre, Chiasson said he wants to hear from Miramichiers about whether the long-abandoned northern bypass alignment or another scenario would be the most ideal option for the community.
Chiasson said that feedback will inform the provincial Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s decision on building a second route linking the city’s east and west ends on the river’s north side. Once a route is selected, he said DTI will work to secure funding for the project.
“My commitment is to identify the route, fully cost it, and chase the money,” said Chiasson.
