Multi-unit rowhouse development planned for Doaktown
Developers hope to acquire land from village, obtain cost estimates, and gauge interest

DOAKTOWN • A pair of local developers are hoping to build a multi-unit housing project on a dormant ballfield and racetrack property in the heart of Doaktown.
And while the village council has declared the land sought by the developers as surplus, Mayor Art O’Donnell says a request-for-proposals process is still needed before council decides to sell the parcel.
At the Jan. 21 council meeting, local businessmen Brad Dillon and Cliff Durling presented plans for an 18-unit rowhouse complex on Prospect Street, between the Doaktown Curling Club and the Ambulance New Brunswick station. They’re asking the village to give or sell them the property.
Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 18 meeting to deem the lot surplus for potential housing developments.
“We want this to be as cost-effective for people as possible,” said Dillon, who co-owns the Doaktown and Blackville Home Hardware stores with his wife, Becky.
“These units will likely be marketed toward seniors looking to downsize or have an affordable place to live. These will be beautiful units in the centre of town overlooking the [Old Mill Pond Golf Club], and they couldn’t be any more central to the [Central Miramichi Community Health Centre] because you could walk there. It will also open up housing for people looking to move to the community.”
