Northmen lead Hawks in senior hockey final
Miramichi splits weekend playoff games, leads series with Elsipogtog 2 games to 1

RICHIBUCTO • The Elsipogtog Hawks managed to avoid losing a third straight game to the Miramichi Mike’s Bar and Grill Northmen in the Beauséjour Senior Hockey League final over the weekend.
The Northmen lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 after losing 6-4 to the Hawks in Game 3 on Sunday at the Kent North Imperial Centre.
Sunday’s contest followed an 8-3 victory for the Northmen in front of a sold-out crowd in Game 2 on Friday at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
“We’re built for the playoffs,” Northmen defender Jon Harty said after Game 2. “We may not have the most high-end talent, but we’ve got the hardest-working guys and the best culture in the dressing room.
“We all know at this point that it’s mid-March, the weather outside is getting nicer, and this is what we want to do. We want to win. We play hard and go to the corners. Everyone is firing on all cylinders, and it’s nice to see.”
