Northmen upset JCs, advance to league final
Miramichi eliminates Bouctouche in Game 7 of senior hockey league semis

BOUCTOUCHE • For the first time in their three-year history, the Miramichi Mike’s Bar and Grill Northmen will compete for a Beauséjour Senior Hockey League championship.
The Northmen punched their ticket to the league final with a 5-2 triumph over the top-seeded Bouctouche Dodge Ram JCs in the deciding game of the best-of-seven semifinals on Sunday at the J.K. Irving Centre.
The win marked the first time either team won consecutive games in the series. The Northmen edged the JCs 4-3 in Game 6 on Friday at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
Bouctouche’s season-ending loss on Sunday also marked the team’s first defeat on home ice this year. The JCs went 10-0 in regular-season play and 4-1 in the playoffs in their own barn. Miramichi was their first opponent in the post-season, as the JCs and defending champ Dalhousie Marauders clinched a first-round bye for being the top two finishers after the regular season.
The Northmen swept the Amherst Ducks in three straight games in the best-of-five quarterfinals. They’ll now await the outcome of the other semifinal between their longtime rivals, the Elsipogtog Hawks, and the Marauders.
The Hawks forced a Game 7 with a 6-5 overtime win in Game 6 on Sunday in Richibucto. The deciding game is on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Dalhousie.
