A city resident says a trail through a brownfield site recently acquired by the municipality should be reopened, which the city’s top bureaucrat says is in the works.

In a letter to Mayor Adam Lordon and council, Michael Mersereau asked the city to restore access to the waterfront trail running through the old UPM-Kymmene groundwood mill site, in the former village of Nelson.

The provincial government — which used to own the site — blocked the trail at both ends at Flett Street and St. Patrick’s Drive in 2020, citing safety concerns.
