Senior Ironmen edged by Mets in home opener
Chatham squanders five-run lead in fifth inning of contest against Moncton

MIRAMICHI • It was a classic showdown between the Chatham Miramichi Honda Ironmen and Moncton Mets for Chatham’s home opener, but the Ironmen let the victory slip away midway through the contest.
The Ironmen (1-4) put up a combined six runs in the second and third innings before coughing up a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth when the Mets (4-2) added six runs of their own en route to a 7-6 victory in New Brunswick Senior Baseball League play on Thursday at Ironmen Field.
Veteran centre-fielder Orry Cook picked up where he left off after a year away from the league, drilling his third career home run over the right-field fence on the first pitch he faced from Moncton starter Josiah Coombes in the bottom of the second inning in his first at-bat since the 2022 semifinals against the Saint John Alpines.
