Six people to receive Freeman of the City
Award being presented to recognize 30th anniversary of city's 1995 amalgamation

MIRAMICHI - Six people who have served the Miramichi region in business, sports, politics, and the non-profit sector will be recognized for their community service later this month.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, council voted unanimously to present Sheree Allison, Bill Fraser, Tilly O’Neill-Gordon, Artie Morris, Greg Morris, and Hal Somers with the Freeman of the City Award.
All six recipients will be acknowledged at a public ceremony on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel.
The award is being presented in 2025 after a 10-year hiatus to mark the 30th anniversary of the city’s amalgamation on Jan. 1, 1995. It’s the highest honour bestowed by the city and is given to people who have had extraordinary, long-term impacts on the community through service.
“I’m very excited about this and to see these nominees recognized,” said Coun. Veronique Arsenault. “These people have done an incredible amount of community engagement and work and achieved many wonderful things over many decades.
“It’s very fitting that we’ll see this cohort inducted as Freemen of the City.”
