Sports Notebook: Roy, Duffy win 5K race
Running club kicks off its 2025 season with annual Rocky Blackmore Memorial 5K

MIRAMICHI - Luc Roy and Meghan Duffy won their respective divisions in the Miramichi River Runners’ first points race of the 2025 season last weekend.
Roy, of Bathurst, finished Sunday’s Rocky Blackmore Memorial 5K Road Race with a best-overall time of 16:49. The male division’s runner-up, Remi-Pierre Roussel (18:31) of Tracadie, was nearly two minutes behind.
Denis St-Onge (19:57) of Miramichi came in third, followed by Benton Flanagan (20:26) of South Esk and Ralph Williston (22:01) of Miramichi.
Duffy, of Miramichi, paced her female counterparts by clocking in at 18:54 — good for third overall. She beat runner-up Kelly O’Toole (24:05) of Whitney by six minutes.
Miramichi’s Nicole MacCallum (24:10) placed third among female runners, followed by Amy Barrieau (25:31) of Miramichi and Tanya Wood (26:34) of Ludlow.

The race’s virtual component was held on Saturday and Sunday. The top five participants were Krystal Corcoran (22:27) of Napan, Paula Keating (22:41) of Miramichi, Kelsey Gill (23:19) of Barnaby River, John Morrissy (23:42) of Saint John, and Erin Kingston (24:00) of Miramichi.
Next on the River Runners’ schedule is the David Morris Memorial 5K on Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. at the top of Newcastle Boulevard. Registration is open online at runnb.ca until Feb. 1 at 11:59 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Runners aged 19 and under can compete for free.

In other running club news, the pursuit 5K race originally slated for November has been moved to Good Friday (April 18) to the course starting at the top of Newcastle Boulevard.
